“Papa”

“Papa”

Christian Muñoz ·

When I imagined my son saying “papa” for the first time I had this warm toasty feeling that I’d be getting dressed and he’d be curiously standing by the crib looking at me, then maybe happily smiling at me (add a few giggles or laughs for an extra dramatic effect) wanting a hug with his hands in the air with the magical word there. All with just the perfect amount of sunlight setting the scene to make me remember it forever.

Instead while I was getting ready, my miniature freshman college student (after losing a landslide 21-0 football game the previous night) was trying to get up making a mixture of sounds ranging from a drunk dilophosaurus to a happy zombie from Resident Evil. When he managed sit up, he slowly puked out the difficult drooling words “pah-pah” and then gradually fell back down as if he was trying to find and hold on to a toilet seat. At least he still smiled.

I definitely will remember this forever.
